FORT IRWIN, Calif.- Cpt. Anthony Guerrero, a chaplain serving the 213th Regional Support Group, Pennsylvania National Guard provides spiritual and counseling services to Soldiers training at the National Training Center here.
Chaplain Guerrero serves approximately 300 Soldiers from the 213th RSG with community worship, devotional services and individual counseling during training at NTC.
“My job as a chaplain brings Soldiers hope, peace, and a needed connection,” said Guerrero. “The ability to reduce stress levels helps give Soldiers a time for reflection and inner transformation.”
Soldiers at NTC participate in simulated battefield exercises to evaluate deployment readiness. During training, Soldiers may experience anxiety and increased stress.
Chaplain services provide respite, spiritual connection and guidance during arduous training. Soldiers needing crisis intervention can also receive mental health services.
“Before the troops convoy into the mission, I provide a prayer, an insightful thought, or word of the day,” said Guerrero. “I also go the field to provide devotional reading, individual prayer and reflection.”
Guerrero collaborates with the Red Cross, Army OneSource and approximately 9 chaplains from the 56th Stryker Brigade Combat Team during the training rotation at NTC.
“The Soldiers need a beacon of light to regroup and get on the right path to be ready for the mission.”
