To celebrate Fort Jackson's 101 years in the community, the Blowfish Baseball Club, and the Columbia and Lexington Chambers of Commerce hosted Fort Jackson Night at the Lexington County Baseball Stadium July 28.

Soldiers of 3rd Battalion, 60th Infantry Regiment who are scheduled to graduate today, attended the
game and were welcomed with hot dogs, chips, carbonated drinks, and foods that were not available during their 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training.

For Narda Kennamer, a resident of Lexington, South Carolina, this was a special Blowfish game because her daughter, Pvt. Brianna Meador of Echo Company, 3rd Battalion, 60th Infantry Regiment was amongst the Soldiers in attendance. "We couldn't miss this game for anything," Kennamer said.

"We're so proud of (Meador) because she's serving like her daddy who was killed in Afghanistan."

The evening was an opportunity for the community to meet Soldiers and included a softball game between Fort Jackson's Victory Week Softball Champions, 165th Infantry Brigade and Lexington County First Responders, ceremonial events, Soldier recognitions, a cake cutting to celebrate the fort's 101st birthday, and fireworks.

The troops cheered on Brig. Gen. Milford “Beags” Beagle Jr., Fort Jackson and Army Training Center commander, as he threw the ceremonial first pitch. Beagle, along with the oldest and youngest Soldiers of Delta Company, 3rd Battalion, 60th Infantry Regiment assisted with the cake-cutting ceremony and sang “Happy Birthday.”

Staff Sgt. Alec Brinkman, Fort Jackson’s Drill Sergeant of the Year and all of the Soldiers in attendance received a standing ovation.

“I will really remember this for the rest of my life, it’s my first appearance
as a Soldier and the community really welcomed us,” said Pvt. Colton Clark of Bravo Company, 3rd Battalion, 60th Infantry Regiment.
