GLEN JEAN, W.Va. -- The West Virginia National Guard (WVNG) 2019 World Scout Jamboree (WSJ 19) planning team hosted a tabletop exercise (TTX) July 17-18, 2018, at the Glen Jean Armory in Glen Jean, West Virginia to discuss the event to be held at the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in Fayette County, W.Va., July 22 – Aug. 2, 2019.

Brig. Gen. Richard Kim, Deputy Commanding General of Operations, United States Army North (ARNORTH), joined leaders and planners from the Department of State, West Virginia Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, United States Northern Command, ARNORTH, National Guard Bureau, Connecticut National Guard and Boy Scouts of America WSJ 19 staff to discuss situations related to medical planning as well as command structure and organization.

WVNG's vision is to ensure all scouts in attendance of WSJ 19 have a safe and memorable experience during this gathering of global communities.

The WVNG is the largest National Guard contingent involved in the planning and operations for WSJ 19. Around 1,500 military and civilian Joint Task Force and Joint Interagency Task Force staff will be involved in medical, aviation, transportation, logistics, ceremony and security support for the event, which is the largest camping event organized by the Scout Movement.

The Scout Movement gathers as many as 50,000 Scouts and leaders every four years from the 165 National Scout Organizations in more than 200 countries and territories. The 2019 WSJ is co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States.

The 2019 World Scout Jamboree is unique because it is a team effort by Scouts Canada, AsociacioÌn de Scouts de MeÌxico and the Boy Scouts of America. The three co-hosts were selected at the 2011 World Scout Conference, by the governing body of the World Organization of the Scout Movement which is comprised of 165 National Scout Organizations.

The last WSJ in North America was in 1983 in Alberta, Canada and the last time the United States hosted a WSJ was in 1967 in Idaho. Mexico has never hosted the event.

The theme for the 24th World Scout Jamboree is “Unlock a New World.” According to the WSJ 19 Dream Team - a group of Scouts from around the world - this theme speaks to the new adventures, cultures and friendships that will be shared by Scouts from around the world during the twelve day event.
