Members of the Washington Air National Guard’s 194th Wing, during the June drill weekend, were informed that the Wing was to receive $100k to be used to maximize the 194th’s impact and experience.

The task of organizing the Innovation Initiative was spearheaded by Maj. Jason Kramer, the director of plans and programs for the 194th Wing. Kramer gave the opportunity for Airmen to submit their ideas via email and filtered the ideas, choosing a handful that would be pitched “Shark Tank” style by the submitter.

July 13, Airmen presented their ideas to a panel of three. The panel of three consisted of representatives from the 194th Force Support Squadron, 248th Civil Engineering Flight and 194th Wing Staff.

The Submitter then presents their ideas with details on the investment, return on investment and the risks involved, said Kramer.

There were approximately a dozen pitches, with a variety of causes represented, including training, morale and welfare.

The 194th Wing will begin the contracting process for several new additions and upgrades immediately. Additions include commercial internet on the wing side of Camp Murray and an outdoor Airman area with basketball hoops, covered picnic tables and propane grills adjacent to the 50 series buildings.

New training programs scheduled to roll out include Relationship readiness training and leadership development training “Train the Trainer." Relationship readiness training is centered on providing counsel to singles in long-term relationships. “Train the Trainer” focuses on cultivating leadership abilities.

The Force Support Squadron proposed an application to improve their customer service process. The “Receptionist” application relies on the addition of the commercial Wi-Fi network.

Communicating with 194th Wing Airmen is slated to be streamlined through the creation of a 194th Wing information application. Providing another platform to stay connected with Wing news and activities. The 194th Wing public affairs office will be receiving video production equipment to improve the quality of video products posted to all platforms.

The wing is also scheduled to be receiving two self-contained lactation pods for nursing mothers.

The funds are awarded by the National Guard Bureau and have a deadline of being used by Sept. 30, 2018.
