    Corps Chief to hold media opportunity at Olmsted on July 20

    Lt. Gen. Todd T. Semonite, the 54th Chief of Engineers and USACE Commanding General, will visit the Olmsted Lock and Dam the nation’s largest inland navigation civil works project and provide interviews to the media.

    The Olmsted Lock and Dam represents generations of innovative modernization efforts to secure the nation through infrastructure. Its two new 1,200-foot locks and 2,500-foot dam, across the river at Olmsted, IL will facilitate the efficient movement of more than 90 million tons of commerce worth more than $10 billion annually. All of which impact American’s lives every day.

    The Olmsted Lock and Dam, replacing the older existing Locks 52 and 53 at Brookport, Illinois, will increase reliability of navigation. From a regional and national perspective, the Corps continues to ensure the Olmsted project remains a priority as the largest inland navigation civil works project and a critical national economic driver.

    The project ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony will occur Aug. 29, 2018, at which point the facility will be operational. The final delivery will occur in 2020 when Locks 52 and 53 are removed from the Ohio River.
