When newly advanced Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Cheyenne Faulkner shared with her husband, Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Shane Faulkner, that there was a possibility of her being recognized with advancement, he knew.

“I told him that I had been selected as a candidate for advancement, and then when the actual confirmation came, what he suspected became true,” said Cheyenne, assigned to Naval Hospital Bremerton (NHB) Internal Medicine Department.

“I was ecstatic for her. She totally deserved this. So proud and happy for her,” added Shane, NHB Tactical Combat Casualty Care program instructor.

Along with Faulkner, there were two new hospital corpsman first class, seven hospital corpsman second class, and nine other hospital corpsman third class petty officers introduced at NHB on July 11, 2018.

All 19 Sailors were recognized as top performers and advanced in rate with the Navy’s Fiscal Year 2018 Meritorious Advancement Program (MAP).

“This is an exceptional program that allows us to recognize our Sailors based on sustained superior performance. There is no greater honor than reenlisting, advancing and promoting our Sailors. This is an amazing morning to be able to meritoriously advance 19 of our deserving Shipmates,” said Capt. Jeffrey Bitterman, NHB commanding officer.

MAP authorizes commanding officers to advance eligible enlisted Sailors in paygrades E5 and below to the next higher paygrade. The program allows commanding officers with the opportunity to acknowledge those personnel who have demonstrated they are ready for the next level of responsibility by advancing them in rate. The program also grants greater authority to individual commands to better structure their manning levels, and overall helps the Navy by continuing to develop and reward talented Sailors.

Those advanced to their appointment as a hospital corpsman first class, second class, or third class petty officer in the United States Navy makes them heir to a long and proud tradition of naval leadership. By accepting the appointment, they are charged with demonstrating those standards of performance, moral courage, and dedication to the Navy and the nation which may serve as an enviable example to their fellow Navy men and women.

Their desire to excel and to guide others must be boundless; their appearance must be a model for others and their performance must be a continual reflection of their sincerity, attention to duty and moral responsibility. By exhibiting unfailing trust and obedience towards superiors, cooperation and loyalty to their peers, and understanding and strength to subordinates, they will contribute greatly to the effectiveness and good name of the United States Navy.

“A special thanks to the family, friends and mentors of all our new appointees. They don’t get to where they’re at with such great support,” Bitterman said.

Advancing to hospital corpsman first class petty officer were Claire Anderson and Kyle Church. Newly frocked hospital corpsman second class petty officers were Meaghan Bossard, Charles Granillo, Donald Irwin, Stephanie Manamon, Anthony Martinez, Braydon Petersen, and Stephany Stewart. Joining the ranks of hospital corpsman third class petty officer were Josen Borja, Dylan Christoff, Xavior Crowley, Faulkner, Octavio Llamas, Stacey Machado,
Erica Ransey, Jacob Rego, Taylor Williams, and Jennifer Yanes.

“For these young Sailors, this is such a golden opportunity. MAP is really a cool thing,” added Lt. Aaron Johnson, Sterile Processing Department head and Navy Nurse Corps officer.
