Story by Tech. Sgt. Danielle Hopkins

118th Wing, Tennessee Air National Guard

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Airmen from the 118th Wing’s Security Forces Squadron, Tennessee Air National Guard, will deploy, this July to Southwest Asia, in support of Unites States Central Command. Over 20 Airmen will provide security forces protection on bases in undisclosed locations. Some of their duties will include protection to high value assets, law enforcement, respond to emergencies, direct traffic, and investigate crimes on base.

USCENTCOM is a warfighting Combatant Command. Its mission is to direct and enable military operations and activities with allies and partners to increase regional security and stability in support of enduring U.S. interests.

Over seventy percent of the Airmen in the Tennessee Air National Guard are part-time, traditional Guardsmen. That means they serve one weekend a month, with an additional two weeks every year.

“Our Airmen have been working to get ready for this deployment and their knowledge and abilities are unique,” said Col. Keith Allbritten, 118th Wing Commander. “Both their civilian and guard jobs have prepared them for this deployment. We have nine security forces Airmen deploying that are full time police officers. We are thankful to their communities and police departments for letting them serve their nation at home and abroad.”

Not only do we have Security Forces Airmen deploying, but we also have over 100 Airmen deploying throughout the summer to locations all over the world to include Africa, Cuba, and Curacao. They will be providing medical, chaplains’ support, safety, logistics, civil engineering, public affairs, and personnel support to combatant commands.

Media are advised to contact the 118th Wing Public Affairs Office at 615-497-2370 to attend a briefing, interview opportunity, and gear check on Monday, July 9, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. at Berry Field Air National Guard Base.
