Six crew chiefs assigned to the 105th Airlift Wing’s aircraft maintenance squadron were honored for their dedication in a small ceremony held here June 21, 2018.
Master Sgt. Richard Banks, Master Sgt. Tolga Senoglu, Master Sgt. Douglas Havell, Master Sgt. Roman Jeter and Tech. Sgt. Alexander Quintero were each presented with a photograph of their names on their respective aircrafts which will be hung in the squadron in recognition of their dedication and leadership.
Dedicated crew chiefs are the NCOs charged with making sure an aircraft is air worthy and ready to fly when called upon.
Maj. Ryan Dannemann, commander of the 105th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, said the ceremony was to acknowledge the hard work it takes to become a dedicated crew chief responsible for the maintenance of a C-17 Globemaster III.
“I think it’s really an honor for them and this is just a way to appreciate what it is they do and how important they are to our wing and our mission,” Dannemann said.
Jeter emphasized the importance of attention to detail, a trait he tries to instill in young Airmen.
“It’s a high performance machine we work on every day, so with that, standards have to be kept without fail,” Jeter said.
Roe said it’s crucial to take care of yourself, because you can never be sure what the next day may bring.
“Get a good night’s sleep because you don’t know how long your shift’s going to be or what’s going to be ahead of you,” Roe said.
Dannemann added that dedicated crew chiefs are often overlooked, but essential to completing the flying mission.
“The hot weather, the cold weather, the 24-hour the weekends,” Dannemann said. “They really are the guys that go unseen a lot of the times, but the only reason that aircraft moves is because of the hard work that goes so often unnoticed.”
