    Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort

Lt. Col. Adam L. Jeppe relinquished command of Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 31 to Lt. Col. Anthony C. Lyons during a change of command
ceremony aboard Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort June 25.

The commanding officer of MCAS Beaufort, Col. Timothy Miller and the commanding officer of Marine Aircraft Group-31, Col. Frank Latt attended the ceremony, along with other squadron commanders
    aboard the air station.

MALS-31 was activated on Feb. 1, 1943 at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C. The squadrons awards include the Presidential Unit Citation Streamer, Navy Unit Commendation Streamer, Meritorious Unit Commendation Streamer and the National Defense Service Streamer with three Bronze Stars.

“When I first took command, it didn’t take me long to learn what Lt. Col Jeppe and this squadron brought to the fight,” Latt said. “MALS-31 is at the cornerstone of every MAG-31 success. No matter their hardships and workload, they have flourished under the guidance and leadership of Lt.
Col. Jeppe. Thank you for your service and Semper Fidelis.”

After exchanging the squadron colors, the symbolic transfer of command, Jeppe was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal with a gold star in lieu of third award for his outstanding meritorious service while serving as the commanding officer of MALS-31. After relinquishing command, Jeppe will report to the National War College as the command officer.

“I have been privileged to work with some of the best Marines during my time here,” said Jeppe. “I cannot express how much I appreciate all of their hard work and effort these past two years. My time leading this squadron has been memorable and I can’t thank all of you enough. Leaving the Stingers will be difficult but I know that they are in the best hands possible.”

Lyons, a native of Baker, La., enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1987. As the incoming commanding officer of MALS-31, Lyons will lead the Stingers as they prepare for future deployments and support the squadrons of MAG-31. After the ceremony, service members and guests were invited to attend a reception at the officers club aboard MCAS Beaufort.

“The past month I have been here I’ve been able to see the very positive command environment that’s been put in place,” said Lyons. “Our mission is to support the flying squadrons of the MAG and we will not fail it. I look forward to leading this already spectacular squadron and leading it to even greater heights, let’s go to work.”
