WIESBADEN, Germany -- U.S. Army Col. Neil K. Khatod assumed command of the 2d Theater Signal Brigade during a ceremony June 26, 2018, in the Clay Kaserne Fitness Center gymnasium in Wiesbaden.

Khatod takes command of the largest signal brigade in the U.S. Army Network Enterprise Technology Command, or NETCOM, with responsibility for providing mission command and network services to two geographic combatant commands – U.S. European Command and U.S. Africa Command – accounting for an area of more than 110 countries and approximately 33 percent of the world’s population.

In his remarks at the ceremony, U.S. Army Maj. Gen. John W. Baker, the NETCOM commanding general, said the scope of the brigade’s mission is larger than ever.

“Just last year alone, the 2d Theater Signal Brigade team members extended tactical and strategic communications to over two dozen countries, and they continue to prepare for the next set of missions,” Baker said. “I know that this team, this Brigade of Excellence, will continue in the same traditions that have led it to its storied past.”

Baker challenged Khatod to continue moving the brigade forward and to strengthen relationships with allies and partners.

“Our commitment to our allies and our partners across the European continent is at an all-time high and is absolutely vital towards maintaining a Strong Europe, and I challenge you to expand this relationship even further,” Baker said. “The Army has chosen very well in selecting you to lead this brigade.”

Khatod has previously served in Germany with Infantry and Signal units in Schweinfurt, Wurzburg, Kitzingen and Wiesbaden. Most recently he served as the assistant chief of staff G-3 for the 335th Signal Command (Theater) (Provisional) at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait.

“It’s truly a pleasure to return to Wiesbaden and U.S. Army Europe – it feels like a return to my Army home where I grew up. Although it’s a coming home of sorts, there are plenty of new challenges to a different and dynamic Europe,” Khatod said.

He said he was deeply humbled to assume command of the brigade.

“I look forward to these opportunities over the next two years. Through it all I promise that we will focus on building combat power, enabling our coalition combat formations to deter current or future aggressors, and as we do this we’ll take care of several needs to improve and optimize our network day in and day out while taking care of Soldiers, contractors, (Department of the Army) Civilians, Local Nationals and Family Members,” Khatod said.
