Ellsworth Airmen and their families took part in the annual base picnic at the Dakota’s Club June 22, 2018.
More than 150 community members were treated to a free barbecue lunch and deserts, all while socializing with other families.
“We put on this event as a way to thank the Airmen and their families for their hard work and dedication to the base,” said Carrie Brewer, 28th Force Support Squadron marketing director. “It also serves as a way to bring people together and just celebrate the start of summer.”
Families also participated in a variety of activities to include bouncy castles, family kickball, soccer darts and bubble soccer.
“I’m really glad we get the opportunity to come out and do events like this for our Airmen,” said Chief Master Sgt. Carl Petermann, 28th Maintenance Squadron superintendent. “It’s good to take a break and get away from work for a little bit.”
In addition to the food and activities, Airmen also partook in the Air Force Ball Dunk-a-Leader fundraiser, which involved nominating base leadership to be dunked in a tank of water. The money raised will go toward the base’s 2018 Air Force Ball fund.
“I’m always up for helping raise money for a good cause,” Petermann said. “Especially for a heritage event like the Air Force Ball.”
