In 2008, Sgt. Cesar Sarior was a young man headed to the All City Leadership Secondary School in Bushwick, New York. At this leadership school his life would be changed forever. The events that followed included drill, physical training, and military history along with normal school work. Sarior would attend this school for the next 6 years and graduate with the same 30 peers he entered the school with.

“[It’s] where I got my first little taste of the military, because it was a Marine Corps style JROTC (Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps),” said Sarior, a special intelligence system administrator with Headquarters Company, Headquarters Battalion, 3rd Marine Division.

Sarior enlisted out of Recruiting Substation East New York in 2014 and went to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island. Following graduation from Marine Corps combat training East, Sarior was given orders to Pensacola, Florida, to learn his military occupational specialty.

Upon graduation from MOS school, Sarior was assigned to Camp Pendleton, California with 1st Radio Battalion. He is now stationed in Okinawa, Japan, where he is a special intelligence system administrator with the division.

“So far Sgt. Sarior has demonstrated superior initiative,” said Staff Sgt. Edward Coker a special intelligence system administrator and a native of Spartanburg, South Carolina. “As soon as he got on deck, he took as many billets and responsibilities as we would give him, and he just ran with them.”

According to Sarior, his main goal while leading his Marines is to ensure that they aren’t just better Marines but also better humans. He says he hopes to get the opportunity to deploy to as many places as possible while in Japan.

“I want to try to go on a Marine Expeditionary Unit deployment out here,” said Sarior a native of Brooklyn, New York. “I know the 31st MEU comes around often.”

In the short amount of time he has been with the division, he’s been known as a hard worker and someone who will look out for you.

“He’s a very proactive leader,” said Cpl. Riley Flynn from Augusta, Georgia. “Outside of work he’s a great person to go talk to; he really engages his Marines. He’s probably one of the better sergeants I’ve had the pleasure of working with.”

Marines with 3rd Marine Division, based in Okinawa, Japan, are the only continuously forward deployed Division in the Marine Corps. 3rd Marine Division is tasked with providing regional security and building relationships with Allies and partners in the Indo-Pacific.
