ROSECRANS NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Mo. - Airmen from the 139th Airlift Wing recently started a base-wide book club. The group meets on drill weekends and is open to all members.
"The base is always looking for a way to do more professional development," said Capt. Jessica Knox, vice president for the Company Grade Officers Council, who helped start the book club.
The group most recently met during June drill where they discussed their first book, "Who Moved My Cheese?" by Dr. Spencer Johnson. The book talks about change management and how to handle change in story format. 12 members attended that meeting.
"It's basically about adapting to change and overcoming fears," said Capt. Matthew Neil, who also attended the book club meeting.
Neil said having a mixed crowd with different rank is a great way to gain perspective. He also said some of the books they select have audio books or even movie adaptations. Movie adaptations help with bringing¬¬ a different perspective to the table, said Neil.
The group is currently reading "Outliers," by Malcolm Gladwell, and they will be reviewing it during July drill. All members are welcome to join.
