JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Cryptologic Technician (Technical) (CTT) 1st Class Tori M. Barnhart, a native of Rochester, Indiana, currently serves as an instructor at Information Warfare Training Command Virginia Beach, Learning Site Jacksonville, Florida.

She enlisted in the United States Navy in June 2009, and following completion of basic training at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, she reported to Naval Technical Training Center Pensacola, Florida, completing CTT training. She has since qualified as an enlisted information, surface, and air warfare specialist.

Barnhart’s early assignments include the USS Fitzgerald, where she served as an SLQ-32 electronic warfare suite technician and operator; and Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 134 where she served as a signals analyst and reporter forward deployed to the Mediterranean Sea and the Arabian Gulf in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

In her current position, she trains Sailors throughout the information warfare community.

“Everywhere you go you will hear the saying, train like you fight. Well, that training starts at the school house,” said Barnhart. “Whether it is at Recruit Training Command, “A” school, “C” school, or at the “F” schools where I teach, I am proud to be an instructor in the world’s finest Navy.”

She recently convened a Mobile Team Trainer (MTT) in Rota, Spain for Sailors from two Forward Deployed Naval Forces – Europe (FDNF-E) guided missile destroyers.

Her special MTT convene for the Joint Tactical Terminal- Maritime (JTT-M) Operations and SSX-1 courses provided CTTs from the USS Carney (DDG 64) and USS Ross (DDG 71) the skills required to conduct electronic warfare operations in support of fleet operations. As the FDNF-E ships provide maritime security and conduct routine operations in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operation, this training helps ensure Sailors maintain a high degree of electronic warfare proficiency.

The JTT-M Operations course provides electronic warfare operators with the basic knowledge and skills to operate and maintain the AN/USQ-151 JTT-M system afloat at an apprentice level with minimal supervision and in accordance with current fleet system operations and maintenance guidance. The SSX-1 course provides CTTs with the basic knowledge and skills necessary to effectively perform operations on the AN/SSX-1 (Small Ship) without supervision.

IWTC Virginia Beach currently offers 65 courses of instruction in information technology, cryptology, and intelligence with an instructor and support staff of 280 military, civilian, and contract members who train over 6,400 students every year at five training sites in the Hampton Roads area. It is one of four school houses for Center for Information Warfare Training and also oversees learning sites at Jacksonville and Mayport, Florida; Kings Bay, Georgia; and Groton, Connecticut to continue aligning IW community training.
