    4th Marine Corps District

RS Raleigh covers an area of approximately 41,000 square miles. The recruiting station is comprised of 13 Recruiting Sub-Stations, 20 Permanent Contact Stations and 1 Officer-Selection-Officer Station. Under Neikirk’s charge, the station received the Superior Achievement Award for the years 2016 and 2017 and was ranked the third best recruiting station in Eastern Recruiting Region in 2017.

“I am humbled to have served alongside these exceptional Marines,” said Neikirk as he thanked the distinguished guests and Marines. “Day in and day out they have scoured the countryside of the great state of North Carolina and have personally sacrificed to select our Nation’s best and brightest to continue the legacy of service. Through their example they have inspired others to follow in their footsteps and have made them better men and women – they have also made me a better man.”

The change of command ceremony is steeped in tradition. It involves a formation of troops and the passing of colors from the outgoing commander to the incoming commander. The passing of the colors symbolizes the acceptance, by the new commanding officer, of the responsibilities and duties of his position. Dunbar addressed the command during the ceremony.

“Marines, you’re the guys who make it happen, you’re the men and women who make mission,” said Dunbar. “I am honored, to be up here as your commanding officer and am excited to take Raleigh even higher.”

Dunbar’s career has led him from a motor vehicle operator as an enlisted man with 6th Motor Transportation Battalion in New Jersey in 2000 to the platoon commander of Company I, 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, in Afghanistan in 2008 and then the Combined Anti-Armor Team Platoon Commander, Weapons Company, Battalion Landing Team 3/8, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit who deployed to Djibouti, Africa and Jordan in 2010. Following his deployments, Dunbar instructed at The Basic School in Quantico Virginia in 2011 and transferred to Expeditionary Warfare School in 2014. Upon Graduation from EWS, Dunbar received orders to report to 2d Battalion, 2d Marine Regiment, in Camp Lejeune, N.C., to serve as the Company Commander for the Raiders of Golf Company. He was later reassigned as the Operations Officer and deployed to Europe in support of Black Sea Rotational Force/Marine Rotational Force.

Dunbar will now lead 90 recruiters and Staff Non-Commissioned Officers in Charge, 5 officers and 14 support personnel in the annual task of enlisting more than 900 future Marines and more than 80 officer candidates, for the next three years.
