In the midst of all the moving parts that come along with annual training, the 1463rd Transporation Company added another level with their Convoy Escort Teams. Members of the CETs arrived at Camp Grayling Joint Maneuver Training Center several days before the rest of the unit to begin their rigorous training.

The CETs completed 6-12 months worth of training in 6 long days. The CETs received training on identifying both enemy and friendly vehicles and weapon systems, simulation training, and live fire exercises along with assembly, disassembly and functions checks of their weapons.

"These soldiers are smart, they're efficient and they're going to become great leaders," Said Cpt. A.J. Malenfant, the commander of the 1463rd Transportation Company.

Sgt. Jason Hoisington was brought to the 1463rd a few months ago to be the Senior Gunner. Hoisington coordinated with the 210th Military Police Battalion to gather information and set a training schedule for the CETs.

"Through adversities like gunnery team changes and an extremely accelerated timeline," Hoisington said, "We completed mounted gunnery at a hundred percent success rate with a seventy-five percent success rate of distinguished gunnery teams".

The distinguished CETs scored over 900 points out of 1,000 points. One of the distinguished teams was a team that consisted of only lower enlisted and the only female on the teams as their gunner. Pfc. Cindy C. Choang, Spc. Robert E. Misner and Spc. Matthew A. Smith worked flawlessly together as a team, according to Hoisington. They finished the range with a score of 975 out of 1,000.

"In my mind failure was not an option," Choang said, "We all wanted to succeed and show everyone that it could be done".

If anyone was struggling with something everyone else would rally together to help said Choang.

"With the use of simulations, a lot of long days and a lot of motivation the teams managed to pull everything together and get their qualifications". Said Hoisington.

Many members of the CETs were taken outside of their elements and learned new skills and positions, but through hard work and teamwork, they excelled.
