184th Sustainment Command

Powidz, Poland- As approximately 18,000 Soldiers from 19 different countries move into the Baltic States for Saber Strike 18; the 184th Sustainment Command provided forward mission command overseeing logistics and movements during the long-standing U.S. Army Europe-led cooperative training exercise. The Saber Strike exercises have had great success in creating a foundation for the strong relationships with our European allies and partners.

2d Cavalry Regiment traveled through two countries en route to their initial staging base while stopping at a mobile supply point near Powidz, Poland. Months of coordination and strategic planning by 21st Theater Sustainment Command, 184th Sustainment Command, 16th Sustainment Brigade, and the Polish Armed Forces made the mobile supply points possible.
The other Baltic States—Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia—have also stepped up supporting the ingress of NATO troops supporting this exercise. The convoy supply points ensured warfighters would have ammunition, fuel, and rations to keep the warfighters momentum moving forward during the Saber Strike.

The 226th Composite Supply Company and 125th Transportation Company operated the mobile fuel points. The Soldiers issued fuel from both Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Trucks (HEMTT) with a capacity of 2,500 gallons and Semitrailer fuel tankers, with a capacity of 5,000 gallons, in which they used for fueling bulk and individual military vehicles. The 226th CSC and 125th TC issued over 45,000 gallons of fuel from the mobile support center’s fuel point by the second day of operations.

The 226th CSC "water dogs" operated a water point that provided purified drinking water to incoming convoys. The "water dogs" operate a mobile Tactical Water Purification System, known as TWIPS, which can produce up to 1,500 gallons of potable water per hour and is self-contained. Due to limited water resources, the 226th CSC TWIPS gives confidence and independence to warfighters essential life support.

A remote ammunition point established in Powidz supplied the warfighters with blanks, simulated explosives, and rounds that are employed during the exercise. The 2CR appoints two-person teams to set up and maintain assigned vehicles during the convoys. The teams carry out constant inventory and track ammunition issues to ensure that each vehicle has the proper combat load, which will enable 2CR to carry out all military operations during the Saber Strike 18 exercise.

The 184th Sustainment Command and its hardworking units are most times the first to push forward projecting sustainment for the warfighter. Fuel, food, water, and other critical supplies at mobile supply points play a vital role for sustaining essential life support for Soldiers on the move, and everything has to be preplanned and prepared by sustainers to keep warfighters in the fight.
