For most Michigan Army National Guard soldiers heading to Camp Grayling Joint Training Center in northern Michigan for summer annual training is a yearly ritual, but for the 126th Press Camp Headquarters annual training in 2018 is a little different.

For the first time in nearly ten years, the 126th PCH traveled with all of its soldiers to Poland, to provide media coverage for Saber Strike 18, a U.S. Army Europe-led training event designed to enhance partnerships between the U.S. and neighboring countries in the Baltic states.

Saber Strike gives the 126th PCH soldiers the chance to expand their capabilities, increase interoperability and learn from other public affairs professionals from around the world

“This is a great opportunity to be able to apply our training in real-world training exercises and to be able to do that here in Poland at Saber Strike 18 is exciting,” said Spc. Robert Douglas, a public affairs broadcaster for the 126th PCH.

Soldiers from the 126th PCH are working with Battle Group Poland’s public affairs assets in Bemowo Piskie, Poland during the exercise. Battle Group Poland is a multinational battle group, comprised of U.S., U.K., Croatian and Romanian soldiers who serve with the Polish 15th Mechanized Brigade as a defense and deterrence force in northeast Poland in support of NATO’s Enhanced Forward Presence.

“One of the things that makes our military and our country so great is that we get to work with different people from different backgrounds,” said Spc. Hubert D. Delany III, public affairs specialist, 22nd Mobile Public Affairs Detachment, XVIII Airborne Corps.

“We get to combine our collective knowledge and experience to make something for the benefit of others. Working with these Michigan Army National Guard soldiers gives all of us the opportunity cross-train and really perfect our craft,” said Delany.

Saber Strike 18 is the eighth iteration of the long-standing U.S. Army Europe-led cooperative training exercise designed to enhance interoperability among allies and regional partners. This year's exercise, taking place from June 3-15, focuses on improving land and air operational capabilities with an additional key objective to train with NATO's Enhanced Forward Presence.
