Veterans Affairs Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System joined with the Omaha National Cemetery to pay tribute on Memorial Day, May 28, and honor the memory of those who served and gave the ultimate sacrifice as Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen.

Under the 100 degree plus Omaha sun, hundreds of spectators watched the majesty of Old Glory rise from her place at half-staff to the high and proud position of full-staff at the Noon hour. Leading up to the hour, speeches from local and national political representatives, Omaha National Cemetery director, keynote speaker, and the VA NWIHCS director swayed the crowd with sentiments of the day.

In his closing remarks, B. Don Burman, VA NWIHCS director, asked the crowd to acknowledge a Veteran for their service today, though their counterparts may not be present for this tribute. “Even though many may acknowledge the day as the kick off to summer and like festivities, let’s make a point today to thank a service member for their service to our country.”
