Ramstein High School, the 86th Communications Squadron and the School Liaison Office have come together to sign an Adopt-a-School Partnership Memorandum of Understanding for the Kaiserslautern Military Community at Ramstein High School on Ramstein Air Base, Germany, May 31, 2018.
The Adopt-a-School program is a voluntary, ongoing partnership between a school and a military unit.
“The 86th CS will ‘adopt’ Ramstein High School, with the intent of utilizing the vast array of human resources and talents of the members of our unit to foster a mutually beneficial partnership between the students, the Air Force, and Soldiers of the Kaiserslautern Military Community, U.S. Air Force Capt. Stephanie Riley, 86th CS assistant director of operations.”
The program also aims to encourage service members to volunteer support for various events, activities and programs for the school, assist in extra-curricular activities and fulfill needed services within the Department of Defense Education Activity European schools.
When a unit is interested and matched with a school, the school liaison officer will set up a meeting with the unit’s leadership and the school principal.
After a meeting with all parties, they discuss the needs of the school and provide general guidance on how the “adoption” will benefit everyone involved.
“By encouraging Airmen and students to volunteer with the ‘Adopt-A-School’ Program, we will create active members of the community while improving institutional and family morale by creating a sense of belonging while being stationed overseas,” said Riley. “Not only will it positively impact the students intellectually, emotionally, socially and physically, but it will also increase public awareness of the military’s mission.”
The Ramstein High School agreement was signed by U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Steven Brummitt, 86th Communications Squadron commander and Sarah Dorosky, 86th Mission Support Group School Liaison Officer.
With the signing of the agreement, Riley said the 86th CS is excited to make this four year commitment become a reality and to establish a partnership between the local DoDEA schools.
