The Summer Leadership and Character Development academy (SLCDA), hosted annually by the Marine Corps, is designed to build confidence and selflessness while better equipping them to improve the lives of those around them. This six-day program is held at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia.
Morgan Sharp, now has the distinction of being 1 of the less than 200 high schoolers selected to attend the program.
Sharp said she heard about the program from Capt. Mosqueda-Chapman at the reception prior to an Evening Parade at Marine Corps Barracks Washington. She was attending the STEM program at the U.S. Naval Academy and immediately researched the program after the event.
“I have always seen myself as a leader,” Sharp said. “I feel that participating will give me more of an understanding of how to be a leader and being able to learn from the Marines will help me even more.”
High school students who are interested in more information on SLCDA or applying for the program can visit slcda.marines.com.
