Soldiers with 1st Armored Division Combat Aviation Brigade competed for Soldier and Noncommissioned Officer of the Quarter, May 22 at Fort Bliss, Texas.

The competition challenged the Soldier’s strength and endurance while testing their warrior skills, physical readiness and tactical proficiency.

“We are challenging the Soldier’s toughness, adaptability and mental agility to see who is going to be the best of the best,” said Master Sgt. James Graves, an operations planner for the event with 1AD CAB.

The competition included 45 participants, and it provided the Soldiers an opportunity to refresh their skills in grenade tactics, engagement skills trainer, M18A1 Claymore mine emplacement and land navigation. They also conducted a 2-mile run, 3-mile ruck march and an obstacle course.

Graders and medics observed and guided the participants throughout the event to ensure they performed every exercise to standard and safely, said Graves.

After completing every task for the event, Spc. Reginald Chumley and Sgt. Robert Weaver with 1AD CAB, won the competition and were recognized for their outstanding performance during the event’s ceremony.

“I feel pretty good,” said Weaver. “It was challenging. For any obstacle, don’t let anything make you feel like you can’t do it. When you feel like you are going to give up, just push through it and push all the way through the end.”
