MEDITERRANEAN SEA (May 17, 2018) Marines and Sailors assigned to Fox Company, Battalion Landing Team (BLT), 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), welcomed a new company commander during a change of command ceremony aboard the Harpers Ferry-class dock landing ship USS Oak Hill (LSD 51) in the Mediterranean Sea, May 17, 2018.

Maj. Joseph P. Murphy relinquished command of the mechanized company to Capt. Robert L. Hindle during a ceremony at sea. Murphy performed the duties of commanding officer since July 2017. He also served as the commander of troops aboard the Oak Hill through the pre-deployment training program which commenced in July 2017 and a large part of the current deployment.

“It has been a privilege to serve in such a distinguished company with such a historic legacy,” Murphy said. “I have all the confidence that the Marines of Fox Company will continue to achieve and excel in any mission assigned.”

During the ceremony, Murphy thanked the Marines he led and worked with through his time at the unit. He has assumed responsibilities as the commander of landing force of 26th MEU personnel aboard the Oak Hill, following the change of command. Hindle also had an opportunity to address the attendees and voice his gratitude for the welcoming.

“It is a dream come true to command a rifle company and I am honored to have the privilege to serve with such a successful, driven, and cohesive unit,” Hindle said. “The main goal for this deployment is to build on the accomplishments and lessons the company has experienced during the work up and deployment. I want us to continue coming together as a team to execute successful training, and to be ready to accomplish any mission assigned.”

Hindle takes the reins of the company after performing the duties of company commander of Headquarters and Service Company, BLT 2/6, 26th MEU – also currently deployed with the MEU – from June 2017 to April 2018. Cmdr. Philip Knight, the commanding officer of the Oak Hill, and his staff attended the ceremony to welcome Hindle and show support for Murphy in his new role.

Notably, Fox Co. has participated in Defense Support to Civil Authorities operations in the aftermath of Hurricanes Maria and Irma from August to October 2017; and exercise Spring Storm 2018 in Romania and Eager Lion 18 in Jordan, while deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet and U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations.

Fox Co.’s Marines look forward to continuing to remain engaged, postured, and ready with credible force to assure, deter, and defend in an increasingly complex security environment whilst serving under their new leader. The 26th MEU trains to sustain expeditionary readiness across a range of critical capabilities both afloat and ashore in order to be prepared to respond to crisis.
