    Afghan Special Forces Conduct Persistent Night Raids

    NATO Special Operations Component Command-Afghanistan

    Afghan Special Security Forces (ASSF) destroyed Taliban strongholds and put pressure on Taliban leadership during multiple night raids in multiple provinces in Afghanistan, May 7-9.

    Afghan Special Security Forces eliminated 56 Taliban fighters and removed 11 IEDs during a multi-day mission in Sar-e Howz village, Faryab province, May 7-8, 2018. Taliban observation sites and command and control nodes used to plan and execute attacks in northern Afghanistan were also destroyed during the raids.

    On May 9, Commandos from the 2nd Special Operations Kandak eliminated 13 Haqqani Taliban fighters responsible for mortar attacks in the area during a nighttime raid in Nerkh district, Wardak province.

    Established in 2015, Resolute Support (RS) is a NATO-led, non-combat mission to train, advise and assist the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF), who assumed nationwide responsibility for Afghanistan’s security following the conclusion of the previous NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) mission. Its purpose is to help the Afghan security forces and institutions develop the capacity to defend Afghanistan and protect its citizens in a sustainable manner.
