BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – Cars slowly make their way through the gate of the 110th Attack Wing, Battle Creek Air National Guard Base, as the airmen report for training. On base you can find them doing various jobs such as preparing food, providing computer network support, base security operations, spiritual guidance and oversight of the base's MQ-9 remotely piloted aircraft and cyber defense missions.

None of this would be possible without the recruiting office, where airmen begin their careers thanks to recruiters like Tech Sgt. Jena Schray. Schray was recently recognized by the Air National Guard Readiness Center as one of the top 10 Air National Guard recruiters in the nation.

Schray has been working for the wing's recruiting office for four years and has recruited over 175 new members, 30 of which have joined this year.

She began working in human resources for the Force Support Squadron, and then quickly set her sights on becoming a part of recruiting and retention office.

"I have a passion for providing good customer service and taking care of people," said Schray. "I thought that I would try my hand at recruiting, and I love it."

It is this passion that has helped her become one of top recruiters in the nation, as she assists in reaching and surpassing manning goals envisioned by Col. Bryan Teff, 110th Attack Wing commander, in late 2017.

"Col. Teff's vision for our office was to be at 95% by the end of the fiscal year," said Master Sgt. Geraldine Ladd, recruiting supervisor. "Our office, due to top-notch recruiting by Tech. Sgt. Schray, has reached that goal 6 months early! As of April 2018 we went over 95%."

These goals have been met because of teamwork within the recruiting office.

"Our office really is a team," said Schray. "We have worked hard over the years to overcome obstacles and challenges to accomplish the mission and provide the wing with future airman it deserves."
