    114th Fighter Wing

The 114th Fighter Wing Victim Advocates hosted Francesca “Checka” Leinwall, Northern State University associate vice president for student affairs, to speak about the Title IX program on May 5, 2018, Sioux Falls, S.D.

The Title IX program is a resource for college students who have been affected by sexual assault and harassment. Under federal law, if a school knows about sexual harassment or sexual violence, the school must take immediate action to eliminate the sexual harassment or sexual violence, prevent its reoccurrence, and address its effects.

Members of the 114th Fighter Wing, victim advocates, and our sexual assault response coordinator were in attendance.

Leinwall has served as the Title IX coordinator at NSU for three years. She has a combined total of 15 years of experience working with sexual assault and harassment victims.

“Since our unit has many college students as members, we brought her in to learn about the resources Title IX program provides them.” said 1st Lt. Emily Rollason, 114th Fighter Wing sexual assault response coordinator.

Leinwall spoke about the guidelines colleges follow as well as the resources students have. Her visit also allowed our own victim advocates and our SARC insight on how colleges handle sexual assault and harassment.

Visiting the 114th Fighter Wing was also a good experience for Leinwell. She was able to learn about the wing’s mission and about our sexual assault and prevention program.

“My hope is that my visit will improve the South Dakota Air National Guard program by being able to partner with Title IX coordinators across the state to provide their members with the resources available to sexual assault and harassment victims.” said Leinwell.
