Program Executive Office Intelligence, Electronic Warfare & Sensors

Since 2013, the Program Executive Office for Intelligence, Electronic Warfare & Sensors (PEO IEW&S) periodically brings together former program executive officers along with the organization’s current leadership for Senior Strategic discussions, with the latest iteration taking place on April 10, at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD.

Returning to PEO IEW&S for a day long visit were retired Lt. Gen. William Campbell, retired Maj. Gen. David Gust, retired Brig. Gen. Thomas Cole, Stephen Kreider and Edward Bair, who all previously served as PEOs during the organization’s more than 30 years of existence.

The meeting served as an opportunity for current PEO leaders to highlight the organization’s current portfolio as well as plans for how they will continue to support Soldier’s in the future. In turn there was a strategy session that allowed for the former leaders to call upon their experiences in the organization to assist PEO IEW&S’ strategies for the future. The theme for this year’s event was dedicated to managing strategic change to enable greater flexibility, adaptability in acquisition planning and execution to rapidly deliver capabilities.

Key topics addressed focused on conducting more efficient strategic programmatic/business planning; leading realistic future acquisition strategy development, and improving government-industry engagement and collaboration techniques in a constrained defense industrial base.

“With more than 200 years of collective acquisition experience the former PEOs provide insights into past Lessons Learned,” said Maj. Gen. Kirk Vollmecke. “Understanding the past is critical in addressing today’s acquisition reform challenges as we are focused on delivering now for our Soldiers. We welcome their perspective and ideas given the budget, technology, and urgency demands that we are faced with today.”
