ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- Representatives of the 48th Fighter Wing’s Sexual Assault Prevention and Response team volunteered to pump gas and gift free promotional materials at the Express gas station, April 2.
The goal is to encourage the Liberty Wing Airmen to join the observance of the Sexual Assault Awareness Month, which has the objective of raising the public’s awareness of sexual violence and educate society on its prevention.
The campaign is celebrating its 17th year utilizing the theme, “embrace your voice,” to encourage individuals of all walks of life to use their voice to promote safety and prevent sexual violence. The theme also urges individuals to speak up in support of survivors of sexual assault.
In the spirit of that theme, the SAPR team has scheduled activities throughout the month of April including a bingo night, yoga classes and other events. 48th FW victim advocates have also partnered with dorm members to host a Take Back the Night event where volunteers will intersperse 1,000 SAPR stickers throughout the base to inspire RAF Lakenheath Airmen.
“You do have power to change our culture, but we must do it together,” said Carolina Yepez, 48th Fighter Wing sexual assault response coordinator. “Lakenheath United!”
