Special Mission Wing 777 “Green Platoon” crew chiefs review helicopter flight engineer procedures during training at the unit’s flight simulator in Kabul, Afghanistan, Apr. 16, 2018. “Green Platoon” is an eight-week aircrew synchronization course emphasizing pilot and cockpit management skills. The crew chiefs receive training in other critical skills including flight operations in mountain and desert environments, personnel recovery and advanced medical competence. SMW is Afghanistan's only special operations aviation unit and performs a full-range of special operations aviation missions to include counter-narcotics, counterterrorism, ISR, and casualty evacuation.
