“This is our first time here with Eager Lion,” said Jordan Armed Forces Maj. Haytham Alshareh, a Computer Engineer. “The training is about cyber security …it’s very exciting and very interesting.”
Representatives from the Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md.-headquartered U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command moderated the exchange with more than a dozen U.S. and Jordanian military personnel here supporting Exercise Eager Lion.
“We’re out here as part of the Office of the Secretary of Defense Director, Operational Test and Evaluation Cyber Security Assessment Program,” said Mr. Ernest Russell of ATEC. “Our role is to provide the indicators of compromise to enable the participants to detect types of cyber attacks.”
The program discussed the tools and techniques using real-world example of cyber threats, said U.S. Army Sgt. Emmanuel Lankford from the Fort Gordon, Ga.-based U.S. Army Cyber Protection Brigade.
While the participants had backgrounds in computer networks and systems, the exchange gave them an opportunity to further their knowledge in cyber warfare specifically.
“Cyber is an evolving thing,” said Lankford. “As we progress, we’ll need to work with partners to ensure our coalition networks are as secure as possible.”
As the course continues Alshareh says he is enjoying the class and looks forward to learning more.
“In today’s environment, there are many different attackers and many different methods,” said Alshareh. “This experience is giving me an additional advantage to get through this field and how to improve the way we react to these sort of malicious programs.”
