JOINT BASE BALAD, Iraq -- Staff Sgt. Sadia Moore is the 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing's Tuskegee Airman of the Week for Nov. 20-26.

Moore, a 332nd Expeditionary Force Support Squadron lodging specialist, handles inprocessing and outprocessing for more than 1,000 servicemembers and civilians each week and manages approximately 8,000 quarters in housing areas H-5, H-7 and H-8.

"We work in connection with [Kellogg, Brown and Root]," she said. "It's a big operation. When you have entire units coming in and going out, you have to make sure the process is smooth for everyone."

Moore streamlined the check-in and check-out process by moving from a paper system to an electronic system. The transition decreased the total inprocessing and outprocessing time by one hour per resident. She also substantially reduced foot traffic to the lodging office by working through unit housing representatives.

"Assuming the entire lodging operation [for Joint Base Balad, Iraq] under the Base Operation Support-Integrator has been a huge undertaking, but Sergeant Moore has been a perfect fit as a lodging specialist," said Chief Master Sgt. Thomas Kierstead, the 332nd EFSS chief enlisted manager, who is deployed from Aviano Air Base, Italy. "She has a positive, can-do attitude. By carefully studying processes, she's refined several already with the intent to improve service to Balad lodging patrons."

Moore, a native of the Dominican Republic, joined the Air Force in 2002 to continue a family tradition, she said.

"My father served in the [Dominican Republic] military," Moore said. "It filled me with pride every time I saw him prepare his uniform. Then my mother moved to the United States, and I decided, 'What better place and time?' I did research into the different branches of the military, and the Air Force was by far the one that stood out."

During her off-duty time, Moore drove the setup for a track and field day here and for a U.S. Air Forces Central-wide weightlifting competition. She also volunteered 12 hours at the Air Force Theater Hospital, allowing the medical staff to focus on tracking and treating patients.

"I always strive to help people," Moore said. "I ask myself, 'What can I do to improve people's lives?' Whatever it takes, I'll just do it."

"Sergeant Moore is sharp, focused and definitely a role model for the Air Force core values," Kierstead said.
