An Air National Guardsman says she recognizes the importance of being an inspiration to her daughters and other young, impressionable girls.
Crystal Morgan of the CRTC-Battlefield Airmen Center was promoted to master sergeant in March. Morgan works at the base as a traffic management specialist. She looks forward to the duties of her new rank.
"I'm excited and ready for the next level of opportunity and responsibility," said Morgan.
Morgan, a New Orleans native, wanted her young daughters to share in the moment and see first hand what women are capable of achieving with hard work and dedication. She brought Nylah, 11, and Lola, 9, to the promotion ceremony.
"Kids need a hero, and I'm glad to be that hero," Morgan said. "They need someone to look up to. I want that person to be their mother. Not the media. Not the world."
Nylah and Lola Morgan said placing those new patches on their mother's military uniform was a good feeling.
"She's a wonderful mom," said Lola. "I'm very proud of her."
Morgan and her husband also have two other children Major and Rainn.
