CAMP BEUHRING, KUWAIT – Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment conducted training on urban operations as Soldiers practiced how to enter a town and clear buildings to find enemy targets, Camp Buehring, Kuwait, March 20, 2018.
The training site is part of the U.S. Army Central Command Readiness Training Center or ARTC, a multi-purpose training and instruction facility. Soldiers, entered buildings to clear rooms and strike targets with paint rounds.
The infantrymen first broke down into squad-sized elements, practicing standard room clearing operations in small buildings. They moved into walled-in yards and multi-story buildings.
“We started simple, just basic clearing the rooms to contend with multiple targets,” said Sgt. 1st Class Nathan Ryno, platoon sergeant, A Company 1-6th IR. “This helps them learn to work as a team.”
The company is a mechanized infantry unit with Bradley fighting vehicles, but every Soldier trains to conduct dismounted operations.
“This training area is so much better than a glass house, because you can’t predict what’s going to be thrown at you,” said Spc. Michael Martinez, A Company 1-6th IR. “Something like this with buildings and terrain to deal with, gives us a much better training. Opportunities like this haves to be taken.”
The ARTC provides a numerous training programs for units in theater. Combat lifesaver, vehicle roll over, and an improvised explosive range are among the different training programs this facility has to offer.
“Sometimes you can be limited as a leader for training, but to know at any time you can schedule the modern operations on urban terrain site; and come out here day and night to work continuous operations," said Ryno. “There are no limitations on the type of training you can do, put in the proper paperwork and make it happen.”
