CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- Several Letterkenny Munitions Center (LEMC) employees recently received External Support Team of the Quarter awards from the U.S. Air Force (USAF) Long Range Systems Division, Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.

LEMC’s team was recognized for their support of the Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM) and Miniature Air-Launched Decoy/Miniature Air-Launched Decoy-Jammer (MALD/MALD-J) programs by Col. Christopher B. Athern, USAF for the period of April to June 2017.

The recognition specifically acknowledged the LEMC team’s support during JASSM GPS testing, which verified the missile’s ability to communicate with GPS satellites via Live Sky Testing. This critical testing ensured the JASSMs met the current needs of the USAF.

“Watching an F-16 take off for mission with a full payload is bone-chilling,” said Brandon Yates, Logistics Management Specialist, Letterkenny Munitions Center. “Knowing that the work we are doing here is ensuring the lethality of that payload is incredibly gratifying.”

Additionally, LEMC provided storage, handling and inspection of missiles for the MALD/MALD-J program, which resulted in identifying unserviceable missiles and assisting the USAF in avoiding associated repair costs.

"Precision Guided Munitions readiness is one of the reasons we exist," said Lt. Col. Jeffrey J. Ignatowski, LEMC Commander. "Delivering munitions readiness to our joint teammates ensures not only warfighting capability for U.S. Air Force, but also ensures we meet U.S. Army warfighting objectives on the battlefield."

LEMC is located on Letterkenny Army Depot and is a Government-Owned, Government-Operated installation. LEMC conducts regional and global distribution of munitions, provides missile maintenance, and conducts demilitarization of munitions for the U.S. Army in support of the Department of Defense and international partners to provide readiness to the Warfighter.
