Tennessee National Guard Public Affairs Office

Maj. Gen. Max Haston, Tennessee’s Adjutant General, today announced that elements of the Knoxville based 278th ACR will deploy this summer as part of the Joint Multinational Training Group-Ukraine (JMTG-U).

More than two hundred 278th Soldiers will assist the Ukrainian Armed Forces with the continued development of a premier Combat Training Center. The realization of the Yavoriv Combat Training Center is a critical step towards Ukraine’s long-term military reform efforts and will provide realistic training for Battalions and Brigades under a NATO interoperable framework. The 278th will lead the JMTG-U effort, as well as, assist in the development of cadre, ranges and training areas, equipment and instrumentation requirements, and a realistic operational training environment.

Last summer the regiment participated in the eXportable Combat Training Capability (XCTC) program at Fort Hood, Texas, developed by the Army National Guard and designed to certify skills in platoon level tasks and will return in June for final mobilization training. Later this spring, the 278th will conduct more advanced training during a rotation to the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California. The NTC is a major training area for the United States Military located in the Mojave Desert in northern San Bernardino County.

The 278th is the largest unit in Tennessee and one of only five armored brigade combat teams in the National Guard.
