Not all trash is created equal

    RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, RP, GERMANY

Story by Airman 1st Class Kristof Rixmann

    86th Airlift Wing

It is important to remain mindful of these laws even while going through the permanent change of station process.
The trash contractor provides yellow bags and three color-coded containers to indicate where to dispose waste. Most trash falls within one of these categories.
Yellow bags represent plastics, rinsed food cans, beverage cartons, styrofoam, and wax paper.
Blue containers are for all paper products such as magazines, books, and leaflets.
Brown bins are for biological waste such as kitchen and yard scraps.
Garbage that does not contain pollutants and cannot be recycled, such as ash, cigarette ends, rubber, toiletries, and diapers will go in the black containers.
Shops and supermarkets collect hazardous waste, such as batteries and power packs, where they will be disposed of properly.
Individuals living on-base are able to use the recycling centers located at building 5146 on Ramstein and building 2821 on Vogelweh.
Military members, and their families, living off-base are allowed to use recycling centers found in their towns and villages.
For any trash or recycling-related questions contact the Kaiserslautern Military Community Housing Office at 0631-536-6671.
Knowing these laws will ensure a smooth PCS for service members and their families.
