The DFA Leadership Symposium is an innovative annual event developed by the Navy Reserve Navy Medicine Education and Training Command (NR NMETC), said Capt. Maria Moreno-Chow, a senior leader for NR NMETC.
“The symposium has consistently been highly received by attendees and distinguished visitors who have previously attended,” said Moreno-Chow. “The program continues to act as a catalyst in creating opportunities to unite the Medical Service Corps (MSC) community and positively impact Navy Reserve Medicine (NRM) commands.”
Moreno-Chow said the intent of the symposium is to provide a face-to-face forum for top leaders from the MSC community, including all NRM DFAs, the Reserve Affairs Officer, and the Deputy Director for the Medical Service Corps. Attendees have opportunities to network and build cohesive bonds, while sharing knowledge and perspectives in a collaborative environment.
“This year an added element to the program was continuing education (CE) credits,” Moreno-Chow said. “The CEs were specific to the MSC community through the Navy Medicine Professional Development Command (NMPDC). The CE objectives this year emphasized ethics and leadership, health promotion, and key matters for MSC officers.”
The three-day event showcased best business practices for command/unit operations and management, provided standardization of administrative management processes, while building leadership skills. Also presented were elements critical to the success of senior MSC officers including career progression, command development boards and strategies for successful mentoring.
