Airmen from F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyoming, participated in an Mission Immersion Day, Feb. 27, 2018, as an initiative by Gen. Robin Rand, Air Force Global Strike Command commander, to exercise cross communication between different career fields.

Throughout the day the Airman visited various groups and squadrons including the 90th Medical Group, 90th Operations Support Squadron and 90th Security Forces Squadron. The Airmen also had lunch with Col. Stacy Jo Huser, 90th Missile Wing commander, in the efforts to understand the different mission sets within the 90th MW.

“We are working hard at F.E. Warren to do better as a wing,” said Huser. “It is unfortunate when a security forces member doesn’t understand what he is protecting. Therefore we have started this program to better educate members within every career field about their role in the mission.”

Having a day for Airmen to visit various squadrons around base allowed them to see how they fit into the big picture and cross communicate with Airmen in other career fields.

It is important to dedicate time to this initiative because many Airmen focus their day on honing the skills necessary to perfect their job. Airmen do not have a time or do not know how to get involved with other careers on base.

“The immersion day was informative,” said Airman 1st Class Trayvon Parker, 90th Comptroller Squadron financial services technician. “As finance it is good to see how a member’s financial concerns might affect the job being done.”

The directive by Rand has flourished within the 90th MW and leadership has taken the initiative to provide opportunities for Airmen, starting with the Mission Immersion Day.

"It's important for our Airmen to understand everything that goes into executing the ICBM mission and having events where they experience different duties firsthand is crucial to developing nuclear leaders," said Maj. Gen. Fred Stoss, 20th Air Force commander. "I encourage leaders at all levels to get their Airmen out to maintenance, operations, security forces and support areas so they better understand the contributions of their teammates and see what they bring to the fight."

With feedback from the Mission Immersion Day there will be continued efforts to make the program better and hopefully involve more units in future immersion days.
