KABUL, Afghanistan - Members of the Tri-Partite Executive Steering Group gathered, Nov. 24, for a quarterly meeting held in the conference room of the recently opened Khyber Border Coordination Center in Nangarhar, Afghanistan.

Twenty-five general officers from the militaries of Afghanistan and Pakistan, along with forces deployed to International Security Assistance Force Headquarters and Regional Command East, gathered to discuss, among other issues, the joint military operations along the borders of Afghanistan and Pakistan.

"We are here to discuss and optimize our coordinated efforts to jointly strike at the heart of terrorism, particularly from the borders of these brother countries," said Maj. Gen. Michael S. Tucker, ISAF deputy chief of staff for Operations, while addressing attending officials.

Members of the Afghan Border police, the Afghan national army, the Pakistani army and coalition forces operating out of ISAF Regional Command East in Bagram work together to prevent border crossings from insurgents attacking targets in Afghanistan and from escaping back into Pakistan. The quarterly meetings are held to update the forces on operational developments.

"This meeting could not happen without desire from all sides," Maj. Gen. Jeff Schloesser, ISAF Regional Command East Commander, said. "The desire is to see our goals of peace succeed, by working hand in hand with our brothers and friends."
