Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico- Approximately 125 soldiers assigned to the 613th Military Police Company and the 402nd Civil Affairs Battlaion from Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico, prepare to depart to Guantanamo Naval Base and Central America respectively.

"The Soldiers are ready for this mission," said Capt. Octavio Perez, commander of the unit.

The 613th Military Police Company will conduct correctional operations at the detention center in Guantanamo for approximately nine months. While at the detention center, the 613th will be responsible operations at Camp Echo.

The 402nd CA Bn is deploying to the Central American countries of Hondorus and Guatamela.

“We will be responsible for building and maintaining the partnerships with our Central American partners. Partnerships that help stability in those respective countries,” said Capt. Carlos A. Rodriquez, commander of the 402nd CA Bn.

The 402nd CA Bn is scheduled to deploy early this summer.

The Yellow ribbon ceremony was organized by the United States Army Reserve Command.

“We at USARC understand that the soldier and the family need support through the whole deployment process,” said Capt. Steve J. Cross, with the USARC Mobile Training Team.
“We try to lessen the stress on families and soldiers by coordinating the presenters, housing and transportation which is esspecially difficult here in Puerto Rico where we could not find a single hotel to house everyone.”
