CHACHEONGSAO PROVINCE, Thailand -- A dedication ceremony will be held Feb. 22, 2018 at the Thung Song Hongsa School in the Chacheongsao province of Thailand for a new multi-purpose building constructed over the past month by multi-national forces during Exercise Cobra Gold 2018.
The dedication ceremony will begin at 9:00 a.m.
Military engineer units from the Kingdom of Thailand, the United States, and Indonesia worked together to build the structure at the Thung Song Hongsa School which will be used as a multipurpose building. The school’s director Mr. Wanching, who is also a retired Royal Thai Army Master Sergeant, along with the school staff and village members, showed their support and gratitude
The new building features three separate classrooms, allowing the school to diversify their curriculum and promote an increase of students in the near future. The structure was built by the 411th Engineer Battalion (US), 12th Mobile Development Unit (Thai), and the Indonesian Army Engineer Detachment as part of the Humanitarian Civic Assistance portion of Exercise Cobra Gold 2018.
The U.S. military and partner nations completed a total of six buildings for six different school locations during Exercise Cobra Gold, as well as community health engagement events where a U.S. military joint medical team interacted with children from the schools and adults from the nearby villages in efforts to improve dental hygiene, dietary nutrition, and general health. These real-world Humanitarian Civic Assistance activities were overseen and aided by the Combined Joint Civil Military Operations Task Force.
The longstanding Exercise Cobra Gold, now in its 37th iteration, is a Thai-U.S. co-sponsored exercise that represents the longstanding friendship of the Thai and American people and a demonstration of their commitment to work together in support of peace and security in the region.
