According to a 2014 DMV study, the average wait for a customer to receive service is approximately 44 minutes. In some states such as West Virginia and California the wait time exceeds an hour.
The DMV 2 Go is meant to meet customers where they are at and avoid longer than necessary wait times.
The handicap-accessible van was fully staffed with three DMV employees and was meant to service 250 or more customers.
The average wait for service within the van was approximately 35 to 40 minutes per person, about the time it takes for a lunch break.
Although the wait is not significantly less than at the average DMV facility, the benefit of the mobile unit resides in its ability to be close in proximity to a customer’s home or job.
DMV 2 Go will be back aboard base every two months: March 12, May 3, July 5, Sept. 13 and Nov. 13.
