The center will be focusing mainly on younger Airmen and officers during the first half of the tax season then support all other ranks and retirees with the more difficult tax cases beginning Mar. 19, said Capt. Kristina Torpy, 42nd Judge Advocate and tax center coordinator.

The tax center is only accepting appointments at this time, but if individuals want to do their taxes on their own, but need a little help, they can come in and fill out their forms and ask for help. If any active duty military families do not have an opportunity to get an appointment with the tax center on Maxwell or Gunter, they can visit Military One Source and file their taxes through MilTax, a free tax service. The tax software provider promises 100 percent accuracy on tax calculations, or they will reimburse up to$10,000 (terms and conditions apply).

Although there are already enough tax-preparation volunteers for this season, the judge advocates would still like individuals to volunteer for next year and go through the required training.

“It’s a really great opportunity for them to learn how to do their own taxes, and we are always here to help them if they need it through every step of the training process,” Torpy said.

The tax center at Maxwell will be open Monday through Friday and will be open at Gunter on Tuesdays and Fridays. To set up an appointment at Maxwell, call 334-953-2786, for Gunter, call 334-416-5055.
