    Resolute Support Headquarters

The Afghan National Army 215th Corps, the 505th Zone National Police, and the National Directorate of Security are coordinating efforts to destroy Taliban insurgents in the Nad’Ali and Marjah districts during Operation Maiwand 11.
Afghan National Defense and Security Forces have been working diligently since combined ground and air combat operations began Jan. 21, directly engaging their adversaries and denying them safe haven and freedom of movement. Afghan forces are working side by side to destroy Taliban revenue sources, support infrastructure, training bases and transportation routes.
“The enemy is powerless against us, they can’t fight us face to face anymore. They just bury IEDs and commit suicide. They are very limited in their capabilities; they commit suicide because they can’t fight anymore,” said Maj. Taj Mohammad Begharaz, the 215th Corps’ tactical operations center chief.
During operations, the ANDSF have stopped two suicide bombers before they managed to carry out deadly attacks using car bombs.
“Our partner’s initiative and steadily improving capabilities are encouraging. Discipline and attention to duty allowed ANDSF forces to identify and thwart two SVBIED attacks by the Taliban in three days, once again preventing the enemy from achieving his objectives. This is a positive reflection on ANDSF leadership and the vigilance of our partner forces,” said Brig. Gen. Benjamin T. Watson, the commanding general for Task Force Southwest.
The ANDSF continue to successfully integrate Afghan Air assets in support of ANDSF ground maneuvers, conducting dynamic strikes with the Afghan A-29 Super Tocano and casualty evacuations with the Mi-17 Hip.
“ANDSF continue to demonstrate a strong bias for using organic aviation in direct support of their operations. This includes planning, requesting and employing Afghan aircraft for close air support and CASEVAC when necessary,” said Watson.
Marine advisors with TFSW are assisting their Afghan partners by battle tracking friendly movements and providing dynamic air strikes. As Operation Maiwand 11 progresses, TFSW and ANDSF will continue to improve security and stability for the people of Helmand Province.
