The Employee Assistance Program is a voluntary and confidential program for civilian employees working through various life challenges that may adversely affect job performance, health and personal well-being.
Licensed EAP counselors are available throughout the local community to all civilian employees and their families, with a goal of alleviating their concerns.
EAP counselors provide financial, legal services and counseling services, health and wellness orientations, supervisor and risk management consultations and crisis response. Everything except life-threatening situations is confidential.
“EAP was created to give our civilian employees a place to go for free assistance,” said Stephanie Wynn, 19th Airlift Wing Community Support Coordinator. “Before EAP, the options were limited on help the Air Force could provide. EAP is very similar to Military OneSource for our military personnel and their families.”
According to the United States Department of Defense Education Activity, the first visit with a counselor, if during work hours, will be regarded as an excused absence. There is no requirement to tell supervisors the nature of the visit or business with EAP, but employees need prior approval for absence during working hours. Subsequent visits during regular work hours are subject to normal leave procedures.
EAP also has Worklife4You services, offering a 24/7 access line, which can be used for multiple services, such as locating child care, providing information on college life and identifying contractors or services for home and auto repair.
“EAP is a tremendous benefit to our civilian employees and their families,” Wynn said “I encourage all civilian employees and supervisors to check out the EAP website to become familiar with the services they provide.”
