KOKOMO, Ind. – Soldiers with the 38th Sustainment Brigade said a temporary farewell to their friends, family and peers during a departure ceremony Tuesday Nov. 2 at the Kokomo event center.
Approximately 250 soldiers will be part of military forces supporting U.S. Central Command efforts in the region performing sustainment operations in Kuwait.
“Individual readiness is one of our core competencies,” said Maj. Gen. Courtney P Carr. “These soldiers have prepared for over a year, and I am proud and excited to see the work they do to support our state and nation.”
Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb and U.S. Sens. Joe Donnelly and Todd Young were present for the event.
“Indiana is sending some of our very best. I’m just full of pride that our state continues to produce such heroic men and women,” said Holcomb via Twitter.
The brigade is prepared for its role to synchronize, monitor and control resources for personnel and equipment, manage service contracts, bulk fuel distribution and secure movement control.
“The brigade is trained and equipped to meet the operational demands of this deployment,” said Col. Kimberly Martindale, commander of the 38th Sustainment Brigade. “We are excited to provide critical logical resources to the men and women operating throughout the central command region.”
The unit’s next stop will be Fort Hood, Texas for premobilization training prior to taking over the sustainment mission overseas.
The Indiana National Guard is dedicated to providing trained and ready forces to support the state and nation at home and abroad on a moment’s notice.
