JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi National Guard is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its Kids Annual Training summer camp scheduled to take place June 25 to July 1, 2017, at the Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center near Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
The annual volunteer-led event allows military children of MSNG Soldiers and Airmen to experience a daily routine that shadows what their military parents experience, while educating them on military service.
“Kids AT is vigilant in an effort to instill pride and patriotism in our future generations while having a lot of fun,” said MSNG Outreach Services Director, Lt. Col. Deidre Smith.
Activities this year include personnel carrier rides, jet flyovers, a museum tour, and military history lessons from the MSNG Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. Janson D. Boyles, and his wife Robin Boyles.
The media is invited to attend the event’s VIP day, Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at Camp Shelby, and should arrive at the base’s south gate off of Highway 49 no later than 8 a.m. to be escorted onto the base.
Events during VIP day include a live aerial demonstration from the Black Daggers, the official U.S. Army Special Operations Command Parachute Demonstration Team.
Media interested in attending the event should contact 2nd Lt. Rachel Henson at 601-988-5949 or rachel.c.henson.mil@mail.mil.
