The stockings Brooks received were filled with a variety of goodies, including candy, games, and personal hygiene items. These touches of home help make the deployment a little easier for Marines and Sailors during the holidays.

“There was not enough space in my office to put all the stockings so I had to store them in my room,” laughed Brooks.

In order to get the stockings out to as many Marines and Sailors as possible, Brooks and Kennan gathered volunteers to help setup the event and distribute stockings. The nonprofit organizations that sent the stockings wanted the experience to be as unique as possible, so each stocking had homemade elements to them and many had a knit beanie included inside.

Brooks was delighted to see the Marines and Sailors walk away with a smile after all the stockings were given out. The following day, Brooks received another shipment of stockings that filled his office again.

“I cleared my office only to have it overflowing again,” said Brooks. “I’m glad because now we have more stockings to send to our Marines and Sailors at other locations.”

With the help of the Air Combat Element, Brooks and Kennan were able to send out all the stockings and spread holiday cheer across the U.S. Central Command area of operations.

“It was pleasant to see the faces of people we don’t interact with on a daily basis and see them happy with holiday spirit,” said Kennan.
