Antoni Macierewicz, Minister of National Defense for Poland, honored fallen NATO special operators with the placement of remembrance candles at the base of the NATO Special Operations Component Command-Afghanistan memorial, Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, Dec. 18, 2017.
Poland has provided forces for the NATO mission in Afghanistan since 2002.
Macierewicz previously served as the Minister of Internal Affairs, Head of the Military Counterintelligence Service, and Minister of State in the Ministry of National Defense. Macierewicz was one of the leaders of the anti-communist resistance in Poland.
