    Naval Medical Center - Portsmouth

Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP) announced Dec. 18 the opening of a new TRICARE Prime Clinic (TPC) in Suffolk, with services first being available in spring 2018. Through the new clinic, NMCP will expand their capacity to provide Medical Home primary care for up to 12,000 beneficiaries and support the expanding population who lives in Suffolk.
The clinic’s community-based location at 7201 Harbor View Blvd. offers plenty of parking and easy access from Interstate 664, and is close to all of the amenities of Harbor View. The clinic will serve TRICARE beneficiaries who live in the surrounding community through more than 70 clinicians and administrative staff members.
“This clinic will provide great care and services on par with the other branch health clinics in the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth network,” said Cmdr. Todd Lewis, the officer in charge of Branch Health Clinic Naval Station Norfolk who will also oversee operations at TPC Suffolk. “One of the great things about it is that it is going to be in a geographic area that previously had not been served by a clinic, so it will be close to where these beneficiaries live.”
Services will include family practice, pediatrics, laboratory, physical therapy, radiology, behavioral health, and a full-service pharmacy that will accept prescriptions written at network facilities.
The clinic will be open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and all offered services will be available during those hours, similar to the other TRICARE Prime Clinics in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake, as well as Branch Health Clinic Boone at Joint Expeditionary Base-Little Creek.
“These services are essential to patient care and are needed in a clinical setting to provide Medical Home-centered care,” said Shawna Hicks-Mumford, a health system administrator who is involved in the initial startup of the clinic.”
“Just like with the other TPC clinics,” Lewis added, “pharmacy, laboratory, X-ray and physical therapy will be available to support everyone, while the primary care appointments will be for those enrolled to the clinic.”
While the clinic will be in an existing office park, the inside of the clinic will be brand-new construction. The clinic will feature spacious exam rooms and brand-new equipment throughout. Radiology, physical therapy and the pharmacy will have top-of-the-line, state-of-the-art equipment, which includes the new pharmacy dispensing system that is being added to all NMCP pharmacy locations.
TRICARE beneficiaries who live in the area may receive a postcard in the mail announcing the opening of the clinic. Specific patients who have been selected to be enrolled for care at the clinic will be notified via letter by early spring of their selection for enrollment.
